Most gutter repairs can be booked in the normal way. Some cannot. Autumn storms, heavy rain and strong winds off the coast are when gutters fail, and a few problems need sorting the same day:

• A gutter that has pulled away from the fascia and is hanging or swinging
• A downpipe that has come apart, so water pours straight down the wall
• A gutter overflowing over a front or back door every time it rains
• Water running down an inside or outside wall, or coming through a window frame
• A section of gutter that has cracked or fallen after a storm

What to do safely before we arrive

• Keep clear. Do not stand, park or let children and pets play under a gutter or downpipe that is loose or hanging.
• Stay off ladders. Please do not climb up in wind, rain or the dark to try and fix it yourself. Gutters are often higher and heavier than they look.
• Move things out of the water. If water is coming down a wall or over a doorway, move bins, furniture, rugs and anything electrical out of the way, and put a towel along the inside of the door if water is getting in.

2. We aim to be with you within 12 hours, including evenings and weekends. There is no call-out fee in the day; from 5:30pm on weekdays and at weekends the call-out is £49.
3. We make it safe. Where a full repair is not possible straight away, we carry out a temporary make-safe, such as re-fixing a hanging gutter, so it stops being a danger.
4. You get a price before any repair. Every repair is quoted individually once we have seen the problem. Nothing is done without you agreeing the price first. If you paid the £49 out-of-hours call-out, it comes off the repair price when you go ahead.

What does an emergency gutter repair cost?

• Daytime (Monday to Friday, before 5:30pm): no call-out fee. You only pay for the repair.
• Out-of-hours (from 5:30pm on weekdays, and weekends): £49 call-out. If you go ahead with the repair, the £49 comes off the repair price.

The repair itself is quoted individually, because the damage, the height of the gutter and the access are different on every house. There is no price list for repairs, and we will always tell you the price before we start.

If the problem was caused by a blocked gutter or downpipe, a full gutter clearance may also be worth doing. Our gutter clearance is priced by house size: £100 for a 2-bed home, £120 for a 2/3-bed semi, £140 for a 3/4-bed detached and £160 for a 5-bed detached, with free minor repairs (clipping back into place anything that is loose) and waste removal included. Why gutters fail in autumn and winter

Leaves and moss build up in gutters through the autumn. When heavy rain arrives, a blocked outlet means the gutter fills up and gets much heavier than it was designed to be. That extra weight snaps brackets and pulls the run away from the fascia, and the water that cannot get down the pipe spills over the front, often right over a doorway. Strong winds then catch a loose section or a downpipe that is already working loose. Keeping gutters clear before winter is the easiest way to avoid an emergency call-out.
