Painting and Decorating in Frinton-on-Sea

Who arranges painting and decorating in Frinton-on-Sea?

DB Professional Services, from just down the coast in Clacton. We organise decorating for Frinton homes, from the Avenues to the Frinton Park Estate, with experienced local decorators we work with regularly doing the painting. Every job starts with a visit and a written price. Call 01255 762761.

White render on the Frinton Park Estate

The Frinton Park Estate was planned in the 1930s as a showcase of Modern Movement houses. Tendring’s conservation appraisal notes that they were all rendered and painted mainly white, with original touches of pink, blue and green, and that three houses by the architect Oliver Hill are now listed. The same report counts rough or decorative render and heavy-handed alterations among the things that harm these homes.

For painting, that means smooth surfaces, careful filling of hairline cracks and a clean, flat finish rather than a textured coating. On curved walls, metal windows and flat-roofed parapets, the preparation takes longer than the painting.

The Avenues and Connaught Avenue

The tree-lined Avenues are a mix of red brick, white or cream painted render and hanging tiles, much of it Edwardian. The Avenues, Connaught Avenue and the Frinton Park Estate all lie within the Frinton and Walton Conservation Area, first designated in 1982. Repainting in the existing colour is normally straightforward, but if your house is listed or you’re planning a bold change, speak to the council before choosing.

We also take on commercial work, such as shop fronts and flats above the shops on Connaught Avenue, with the dates agreed with you beforehand.

Inside Frinton homes

Inside work is part of the service too. Larger Frinton houses often have high ceilings, long staircases and plenty of panelled doors and skirting. We price those carefully at the visit, because woodwork takes most of the time on an interior job.

Clifftop weather

Houses near the Esplanade and the Greensward take the wind straight off the North Sea. Salt dries on render and gloss work as a dull film, so walls are washed and left to dry before any paint goes on. We already clean drives and walls in Frinton, so that step is handled by people who do it every week.

Price and payment

Prices start from £79, though every Frinton job is quoted on its own after the visit. You can pay by cash, Direct Debit, bank transfer, card or Apple Pay. DB is fully insured and SafeContractor accredited (VX5402). Satisfaction guaranteed.

Edwardian woodwork

Many of the older Frinton houses keep their original timber: bargeboards on the gables, deep porches, bay windows and panelled front doors. These are worth looking after, because once they rot they’re costly to replace. Small areas of soft wood are flagged at the survey, and you can choose to repair them before painting rather than cover them up.

On the day

Plants and paths are covered, ladders are kept off soft lawns where possible, and the drive is left clear at the end of each day. If you’re away while the outside is done, we’ll agree access and send photos when it’s finished.

Frinton painting questions

Can you repaint a Modernist house on the Frinton Park Estate?

Yes. We keep to a smooth, flat finish in keeping with the original look, and recommend checking with Tendring District Council if the house is listed.

Do you also cover Kirby Cross and Great Holland?

Yes, both are on our way to and from Frinton.

Is Frinton in a conservation area?

Yes. The Avenues, Connaught Avenue and the Frinton Park Estate are all part of the Frinton and Walton Conservation Area, so like-for-like repainting is normally fine, but check with Tendring District Council before changing colours on a listed home.
