Old cottage roofs
Older cottages in the village have roofs that have been patched and re-covered over the years, so tiles vary. Moss builds up around chimneys and in the valleys.
We clean gently by hand and with steam, and point out anything we notice that a roofer should look at.
Bungalows on the closes
Bungalows have broad, low roofs with a lot of surface on the shaded side. Moss grows into cushions along the bottom courses and washes into the gutters each time it rains. Moss from bungalow roofs also tends to block the gutters below, so we clear what comes down as part of the roof clean.
Clearing up afterwards
Moss removed from the roof is cleared from the gutters and the ground before we leave. Lichen on older tiles near hedges and trees can take a second pass with steam, which we do as part of the same visit rather than as an extra.
By hand, then steam
Moss is scraped off by hand, tile by tile. Then we steam clean the surface to lift lichen and staining. Steam works at low pressure, so it doesn’t strip tiles or push water under them.
Roof and gutters together
Moss from the roof ends up in the gutters, so we usually clear them on the same visit. Booking both counts towards the 10% multi-service discount.
