Jaywick Roof Moss Removal
Jaywick’s homes sit low behind the sea wall, and their shallow roofs collect blown sand, salt and, on the sheltered side, moss. We clean roofs across Jaywick and Seawick by hand and with steam, a few minutes from our base. We never pressure wash a roof.
We’ll look at your roof before quoting. Prices start from £800 as a guide.

Sand, salt and sheltered slopes
Sand carried over the sea wall settles on shallow roofs and in the valleys, holding moisture and giving moss somewhere to root. On the most exposed roofs closest to the wall, lichen and salt staining tend to be the bigger issue. On roofs a little further back, and on rear slopes that face away from the wind, moss builds up instead.
Chalet-style homes with dormers have extra valleys where sand and debris gather.
Quick to survey, gentle to clean
Most homes here are single-storey, so surveys are quick and the roofs are easy to reach. Rebuilt and newer homes have modern tiles, but they weather in the same salty air and are cleaned in exactly the same way: moss off by hand, then steam. Garages and extensions can be added to the same survey.
Close by and easy to arrange
Being only a few minutes from our base, Jaywick surveys are simple to fit in. Every roof is priced on survey, and you’ll know exactly what’s included before we start.
Salt and sand on low roofs
Every roof is surveyed first and cleaned by hand and with steam, with a price agreed before we start. Porch roofs can be included.
What the clean involves
Our roof cleaning has two stages, hand removal and steam. Moss is cleared from the valleys, around the chimney and along the lower courses, where it grows thickest. Next, steam lifts the remaining growth and grime from the surface and between the tiles. We’ll talk you through what to expect at the survey.

Why moss matters
On a Jaywick roof, moss acts like a sponge, holding water against the tiles for days after rain. In winter that water can freeze and expand, stressing older tiles. Thick moss can also lift tile edges, letting wind-driven rain underneath, and it sheds clumps into the gutters every time it rains.
