Concrete tiles on the older estates
The 1960s and 70s homes towards Lexden and Stanway Green often have interlocking concrete tiles. Their rough surface holds moisture, and moss grows thick along the lower courses and on north-facing slopes.
Bungalow roofs are lower but wider, so they catch leaves from neighbouring gardens and stay damp longer.
