Solar Panel Cleaning in Harwich and Dovercourt
With the sea on three sides, Harwich is one of the breeziest, saltiest places we work, and gulls are everywhere. Both take their toll on solar panels. DB Professional Services cleans panels across Harwich, Dovercourt, Parkeston and nearby villages with pure water, removing salt crust and droppings so they can do their job properly.
The quote builder below gives you the exact cost, worked out per panel.

Salt crust and gull mess
Salt is carried in the air off the harbour and the North Sea, and as it dries on the glass it forms a crust that scatters light and traps dust. Gulls leave droppings that bake on in the sun and completely shade the cells underneath.
On exposed roofs along the Dovercourt seafront, salt is usually the bigger problem; in the old town, with gulls nesting on the rooftops, it’s droppings.
Harwich’s position on the coast also means plenty of strong sunshine, so clean panels can make good use of it. Homes on the newer estates towards Parkeston and Upper Dovercourt often have arrays facing straight out over open ground, while panels on the older terraces may be partly shaded by chimneys and neighbouring roofs. Those shaded areas collect more moss and algae around their frames, and we clean them carefully so the growth doesn’t spread across the glass. Every panel in the array gets the same attention, top row to bottom.
The pure water method
Pure water has all its minerals removed, which makes it good at lifting salt and dirt and means it dries without spots. Baked-on droppings are softened before they’re rinsed off, so there’s no scraping. There are no detergents, and nothing is left behind on the panels to attract more dirt.

Port grime and road dust
Harwich is a working port town, and homes near the port and the main road can collect a sooty film from ships, lorries and traffic. It’s greasier than ordinary dust, sticks well to glass and isn’t washed away by rain.
Pure water lifts that grime along with the salt and dirt, leaving the glass clear. If your panels look dull and grey even after a heavy shower, a film like this is the likely reason. Panels inland, around Ramsey and Little Oakley, tend to collect more pollen and field dust instead.
Wherever you are on the peninsula, it’s worth glancing at your panels every few months. Fresh gull droppings are easy to spot from the ground, and cleaning them early stops them baking on.
Harwich solar cleaning prices
It’s £8 per panel for up to 16 panels and £7 per panel for 17 to 25. So 15 panels costs £120, and 21 panels £147. Systems with more than 25 panels are quoted. Pay by card or direct debit.
Cleaning frequency on the coast
Seafront homes may benefit from a clean every six months; further inland, once a year is often fine. Late summer, once the gulls have finished nesting, is a good time to book. Read about our other work in town on our Harwich exterior cleaning page, or learn more about solar panel cleaning.
