Why Colchester paving goes green
Shade is the main reason. Back yards on terraced streets get very little sun, especially when they face north, so slabs stay damp for most of the year and grow a slippery film of algae and moss. Under the big trees in Lexden and Prettygate, leaves lie on patios through the winter and stain them. Driveways near the busier roads into town pick up tyre marks, oil spots and a general grey film from passing traffic.
What we do on the day
We sweep off loose debris first, then work across the surface methodically with the pressure washer so it dries evenly, without stripes. Block paving joints get particular attention, because moss and weeds root there first. Dirty water is rinsed towards drains or the garden so it doesn’t end up across the pavement.
Narrow passages and side returns are fine, as long as there’s a way through for the hose.
Indian sandstone, block paving and black spot
Many Colchester gardens have had new patios laid in Indian sandstone over the last twenty years, and they look superb when new. After a few winters, though, they often develop black spots: small, dark marks caused by lichen that roots into the surface of the stone.

Pressure washing isn’t priced from a list, because no two drives or patios are the same. We look at the area, the surface (block paving, concrete, sandstone or slabs), how dirty it is and how easy it is to reach, and give you an individual quote.
